Wake Forest Top Place to Live

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Times are a changing. So says the 2010 Del Webb Baby Boomer Survey. Researchers found the Carolina’s are “the new Florida” among the young and older boomers. While South Carolina favored most North Carolina was a close second. Boomers are leaning away from Golf Communities and are screaming “feed my mind” Closeness to cultural activities, walking trails, public transportation, medical facilities and churches among the list.

Wake Forest recently was honored as being one of the Top 10 fastest growing communities in the United States. Only a short 20 minute commute to Raleigh, Wake Forest fills the gap for those looking for city living in a rural setting.

Dog Days of Summer

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

It’s official School bells are ringing.  Another summer is rolling to a quick end. For many parents a relief, for others the fall activities begin football, soccer, basketball and my all time favorite hockey. I am somewhat biased on the hockey front as I am a Canadian living in the great state of North Carolina.

For any matter fall is approaching along with some cooler temperatures. The days at the beach are coming to end for the vacationers and back to work they go.  All in all summers are pretty much great  wherever you go and each season brings endings and new beginnings.

This summer has been no exception and my kids will certainly miss the pool when it closes after labor day weekend. The activity chart for our household will shift to school projects and most definitely a weekend excursion to Asheville, North Carolina for some wine tasting, golf and majestic views.

Oh, don’t let me forget my other favorite the Parade of Homes in October !

Cheers

Many places offer great weekend getaways. One of my favorites Wilmington, North Carolina. Just a couple of hours drive from Raleigh, Wilmington has a certain allure that makes it such a great pit stop. Not only do you have a symphony, theater groups and tons of live music clubs, there are festivals from the Azalea festival in the spring and the celebration of jazz music it gives to many a late evening. The riverwalk in the downtown features a reclamation of old warehouses converted to shops and restaurants bringing new life to the older commercial areas.
